What does FICM and ECM Reprogramming do?
|
When it was released, the '03 6.0L Power Stroke was an impressive powerhouse. Variable Vane Turbo technology
combined with 4 valve cylinder heads helped the engine produce power levels that would overshadow the earlier
7.3L Power Stroke engines, despite the smaller displacement! Unfortunately, it was equally plagued with
mechanical failures. This, combined with an inadequate supply of replacement parts, gave the early 6.0L a
horrible reputation, not only among Ford enthusiasts, but the general truck driving public.
Late 2004 saw the release of the redesigned 6.0L engine with radical changes to the cylinder heads which helped
improve head gasket sealing and virtually eliminated coolant leaks. Unfortunately, this year also saw the
release of Engine Control Module (ECM) and Fuel Injection Control Module (FICM) updates that limited power output
of the engine and severely degraded fuel economy. Also, in an effort to reduce further issues on the '03 and '04
model years, the same power limiting calibrations were loaded into any vehicle that happened to wander into a
Ford dealership for service. Often, these "updates" were applied without the knowledge (or approval) of
the vehicle owners. Imagine the surprise of 6.0L owners everywhere who went in for a simple oil change and lost
25-40 HP and 2-5 MPG INSTANTLY!
Power Hungry Performance provides 6.0L FICM and ECM reprogramming to restore your '03 to '04 6.0L to its former
glory and breathe new life into your '05 to '07 6.0L. Get back that lost mileage! Marvel at how responsive
your vehicle becomes! Fall in love with your 6.0L again... or for the first time!

Now Is The Time to Get Back Your Truck's Power, Driveability, and Fuel Economy!
|
Most 6.0L programmers utilize changes to the ECM in order to achieve horsepower gains.
However, ECM tuning is only part of the puzzle to restoring the performance and economy of the 6.0L Power Stroke.
Ford's most current inductive heating strategy (which replaced the FICM
damaging inductive heating strategy that was released in
2007/2008) resolves a number of cold start issues, but
severely limits performance of the engine. With our
standard ECONOMY FICM calibration, most customers see fuel economy gains as well as improved tip-in throttle response
and better overall drivability from idle up through 3500 RPM. (We also eliminate that annoying injector post buzz.)
However, we also offer fully modified FICM strategies that not only offer improvements in fuel economy, but also offer
significant improvements in performance. With our new
ATLAS 40,
ATLAS 80, and
HERCULES FICM strategies, gains of 100 HP
or more can be seen, even with a stock ECM strategy. Combined with a modified ECM strategy, considerable improvements
throughout the RPM range can be achieved with significant improvements in low RPM and high RPM performance.
We are frequently asked, "Just how much difference will I realistically see by changing the FICM strategy?"
Below are the dyno plots that show just what you can normally expect from reprogramming your FICM.
The vehicle we tested was a 2004 F-250 2WD with 283,000 miles.
Vehicle test conditions: Engine at full operating temperature, 3rd Gear, Converter Locked.
To read the dyno charts, the Torque scale is on the left and the HP scale is on the right.

strategy and a modified FICM strategy on an otherwise stock vehicle (click image to enlarge):

Often, customers with later "Inferred EBP" ECM strategies will not see the same results from a FICM Reflash
than customers with earlier ECM strategies do. Ford dealerships do not have the capability to reprogram your ECM/TCM
back to an earlier, more desirable calibration; PHP, however, can!
If your current calibration is VXAP1xx, VXAP2xx, VXBC7xx, VXBC9xx, VXCF7xx, or VXCF9xx,
we strongly recommend that you request an ECM/TCM rollback in conjunction with your FICM reprogramming. If you are
currently using a programmer with custom tunes, your tunes will have to be rewritten to work with the new ECM code. If
you are not currently using a programmer in your truck, we can also custom program your ECM/TCM with a tow or performance
program, including a modified program it to work with your EGR delete.

You are welcome to send your FICM and/or ECM to us to be reprogrammed. We offer a
24-48 hour turnaround in most cases. If you cannot afford the down-time for your truck,
however, we also can also provide you with the hardware to reprogram them yourself!
Just fill in the
FICM ORDER FORM
and be sure to let us know if you are sending us the
FICM and/or ECM or if you'd like to have us send you a remote programmer. If you are
sending your FICM to us, also be sure to fill in, print, and include in the box the
SHIPPING FORM
for your FICM and/or ECM. This is to ensure that know who the item(s) belong to when they arrive.
(Note: Failure to include a shipping form with your items may
result in unnecessary delays in processing your order!)
|
WARNING: DRIVING WITH A DAMAGED FICM CAN
BE DETRIMENTAL TO OTHER INTERNAL ENGINE PARTS!
IF YOUR FUEL INJECTION CONTROL MODULE IS ALREADY SHOWING SIGNS THAT IT MAY BE STARTING
TO FAIL (HARD STARTING, INJECTOR RELATED DTCs, ETC.), WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU CONTACT
FICMREPAIR.com or SWAMPSDIESEL.com TO HAVE IT REPAIRED; THEY CAN ALSO REPROGRAM YOUR FICM WITH OUR MODIFIED CALIBRATION WHILE IT'S AT THEIR SHOP!

Please be aware that there is a currently a 4-12 week wait for remote
programmers. We have fifteen programmers that are out and about at any given time. Every day,
however, we receive new orders for remote programming. Orders are processed in the order they
are received. Customers receive an e-mail when a programmer is available. We do not process a
customer's credit card until we receive confirmation. A running list of customers waiting for
remote programmers can be found to the right. If you have completed your order form recently,
your name may not appear on the list yet. If you completed your order more than two weeks ago,
and your name does not appear on the list, please e-mail Corey:
corey@phptune.com
so that she can check on your order; you will be placed in queue according to your order date.
When a programmer becomes available, it will be offered to the customer at the top of the list.
If you cannot wait 4-12 weeks for a programmer to become available, you are welcome to ship your
FICM and/or ECM to us. In most cases there is a 24-48 hour turnaround for reprogramming. Please
call us if you have any questions.
AS OF APRIL 1, 2011, WE WILL NOT SHIP OUR REMOTE PROGRAMMERS OUTSIDE THE 48
CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES BECAUSE OF THE EXTENDED TURNAROUND TIME, WHICH CAN OFTEN BE AS MUCH AS
4-6 WEEKS. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO GET OUR FICM AND/OR ECM REPROGRAMMING, YOU MUST SEND YOUR UNITS
DIRECTLY TO US. WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE.
