When Minotaur is started a blank project will be created.
Load the memory file that you want to edit or view. A memory
file is simply a file that contains what is stored in the memory
of the PCM. This memory is usually a EPROM, PROM, or Flash memory.
Memory files are often referred to as binary or 'bin' files.
A standard file open dialog is used to select the memory file.
It is helpful to have a stock file loaded to be used a a
reference. This allows changes to be seen very clearly. In this
example the same file is loaded a second time; the first file
will be renamed in the next step. Up to four files can be loaded
at a time. The first file is the only one that can be edited, the
others are for reference only. Files 2 to 4 can be removed and
loaded at any time. To remove a memory file, right-click on the
memory file and select 'Remove' from the menu.
Whenever a stock file is loaded for editing, it should be
saved with a different name to prevent the stock file from being
overwritten with changed data.
The file name in the overview window is updated.
Once the memory files have been loaded, the raw data is
accessible in the hex editor. To be able to work with parameters,
maps and functions in real units it is necessary to load a
Resource Definition File. This file contains information that
tells Minotaur where resources are located, how they should be scaled,
the unit of measure and other characteristics. Resource
definition files support a specific PCM or in many cases a series
of PCMs.
Now that the memory and resource definition files are loaded,
you should save the project. The project file contains the name
of the memory and resource files. A project file does not contain
any calibration information; that will be saved in the memory
file. Opening a project file will load the memory and resource
files so you do not have to constantly repeat the steps taken to
get to this point.
All the resources are assigned a level of Basic, Advanced,
Expert, or Genius. In most cases you will want to set the level
to Basic or Advanced. Resources that are at the selected level or
below will be show in the overview window, all others will be
hidden.
